Children's Learning Center COORDINATOR

Job Title: Children’s Learning Center (CLC) Coordinator
Reports To: Program Director
Schedule: 35-40 hours per week. While Bay Area schools are closed to in-person learning, this position works roughly 9am - 5pm with occasional evening or weekend hours. Once in-person school resumes, this position will shift to roughly 11am - 7pm with occasional weekend hours.
Salary: $20/hour
Location: Oakland, CA

About Community Education Partnerships
Community Education Partnerships (CEP) is a nonprofit whose mission is to increase the learning opportunities and enhance the academic achievement of homeless and highly-mobile (HHM) youth in the Bay Area. CEP recruits and trains volunteers to provide high-quality, individualized one-on-one academic tutoring and mentoring for pre-K - 12th grade homeless and highly-mobile (HHM) students. Additionally, CEP offers opportunities for local HHM students to participate in extra-curricular enrichment activities like field trips and CEP-hosted shelter-based activities, such as Homework Clubs, Family Reading Nights, Computer Clubs, and Back to School Nights. CEP is a small but growing nonprofit based in Oakland, CA that has been providing services to HHM students across the Bay Area since 2010.
The Role
Family Matters Shelter is a shelter in Oakland serving families with children. On site at the shelter is a Children’s Learning Center (CLC) operated by CEP. The Children’s Learning Center Coordinator will oversee and coordinate all aspects of the CLC including supporting students daily with online learning while schools are closed due to the pandemic. When students return to school, the hours of the CLC will shift to serve students after school. Thus, ultimately, the hours of the position will be approximately 11am to 7pm, M-F.
Hours
The Program Coordinator is a non-exempt employee, committing 35-40 hours per week, depending on workload. Work over 8 hours in a day or over 40 hours in a week will require prior authorization by the Program Director or Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities
Coordination of Children’s Learning Center
- Create and maintain a daily schedule for the Center that is tailored to the age groups present at the shelter
- Create and maintain a respectful environment at the Center that is conducive to learning
- Supervise and support Center volunteers
- Provide guidance and resources to Center volunteers
- Inform Program Director of volunteer needs
- Participate in volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling
- Coordinate and support one-on-one tutors for Center students
- Keep the Center organized, tidy, and ensure that adequate supplies are available
- Develop or source and maintain curriculum for students at the Center
- Conduct student intake
- Ensure high quality recordkeeping and regular data entry for all activities associated with the Center
- Conduct timely and consistent outreach to shelter residents to inform them of available services at the Center
- Regularly check in with parents, caregivers, and/or guardians regarding students’ experience at the Center and their academic progress
- Organize events and celebrations for students at the Center (e.g., Family Reading Nights, guest visitors, holiday celebrations)
- Attend weekly site coordination meetings with shelter staff
- Attend weekly supervisory meetings with Program Director
Other duties
- Assist with CEP Social Media content development and engagement
- Participate in volunteer and donor appreciation
- Support our annual fundraiser and fundraising campaigns
To be successful in the role, the Program Coordinator must have
- Passion for CEP’s mission and the belief that every student deserves the support they need to achieve academic success
- The ability to work independently while remaining accountable to performance expectations
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills: ability to actively listen and communicate clearly, concisely, and close communication loops
- Teaching and classroom management experience
- Superb customer service skills and the ability to manage relationships with volunteers, students and their families, community members, and donors
- The ability to represent the organization in a professional manner
- Attention to detail and the ability to move between a global and detailed view
- The ability to sit for several hours at a time and lift up to 30 pounds
- Access to a reliable means of transportation
Qualifications
- A B.A./B.S. degree or higher or an Associate’s degree with at least 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Teaching or leadership experience in a classroom setting;
- Demonstrated effectiveness coordinating and managing volunteers or staff
- A deep understanding of the impact of poverty on children and their education
- Familiarity with best practices for tutoring and classroom management
- Warmth, humor, flexibility, and optimism
- Personal and professional commitment to social justice and equity
