How to Become a CEP Volunteer 

CEP is now accepting application for in-person and virtual tutors. To be a tutor you must be:
  • 16 or older. Minor tutors are required to have a parent or guardian go through the application process with them. 
  • A California resident and willing to complete a Live Scan background check and complete Mandated Reporter Training.
  • Able to commit at least one hour per week to tutoring for at least six months.
  • If volunteering in-person, you must be fully vaccinated and willing to adhere to all safety protocols. 
  • For some volunteers, depending on where you volunteer, may require a TB test/screening.

Upcoming Orientation and Training Dates

CEP volunteers are required to attend a one-hour virtual Orientation Day 1 AND a Introduction to Tutoring Training Day 2. Please sign up for them separately here.

1. Wednesday, May 28th (Pt. 1 & 2: Same day)

Step 1: Complete a VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM! Please Note: If you are a minor, your parent/guardian must create an application as well even if they do not volunteer.

Step 2: Attend a 1-hour Volunteer Orientation (Day 1). Sign up here. Please Note: If you are a minor, your parent/guardian must be present for the orientation.

Step 3: Attend a 1-hour Introduction to Tutoring Training (Day 2). You can use the same RSVP link as the Orientation here. Please note, you will not receive an automated confirmation email, please allow CEP staff 1-2 business days to confirm your RSVP. Please Note: If you are a minor, your parent/guardian must be present for the day 2 training.

Step 4: Complete a Live Scan fingerprint background check. For information about the Live Scan process, please visit http://www.cep.ngo/live-scan-information.html. Please Note: If you are under the age of 18, your supporting guardian must complete the Livescan on your behalf.

Step 5: Complete a two-hour Mandated Reporter Training. If you are a minor, please have your guardian complete it on your behalf. You can complete it here! Once done, send your certificate to [email protected] Please Note: If you are under the age of 18, your supporting guardian must complete the Mandated Reporter Training. Please make sure to choose the "Volunteers" module for "General Volunteers".

Step 6: Get matched with a student experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in your community and make an impact!

Not ready to start tutoring? Here are some of the many other ways you can help:
  • Organize a school supply drive or a book drive at work, in your neighborhood, at your church, on your sports team, etc.
  • Make a monetary or in-kind donation
  • Assist with outreach and administrative tasks
  • Next time you host a party, ask guests to bring a book or school supply to donate instead of a gift
  • Spread the word about Community Education Partnerships to others
